Featured Event - October 18th, 2024 6PM: FOSS, Libraries, and Communities
We will be having a social meet up to discuss libraries, Internet in a Box, and many other pragmatic, change-making, and action-oriented topics related to Free/Open source software (FOSS) and communities! Do you have ideas for using FOSS to craft an Internet for ourselves and our peers, under our communities’ control? Come join us!
We are meeting in Harvard Square at Winthrop Park - just in front of Grendel’s Den Restaurant and Bar — roughly the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month! Join us October 18th at 6PM!

The case for free ("free" as in freedom) software is stronger than ever. GNU/Linux has been wildly successful in the server market. Free desktop operating systems like Ubuntu and other GNU/Linux distributions provide rich end-user experiences -- on par or better than proprietary rivals in many respects. Yet the uptake of using GNU/Linux as an end-user (desktop/laptop) operating system still lags. Our group aims to end that by:
- Creating a community of free desktop enthusiasts.
- Providing a venue where GNU/Linux questions may be asked by users of all levels.
- Fostering free software evangelism. Let's spread the word!
Everyone is welcome! You don't need to be a techie or have prior experience. This is a social movement as much as a technological one. Join us!
